Each year, TIME Magazine scours the globe, looking for The 100 Best Inventions that have changed the way we live. 2020 was no different - well, actually it was. With the COVID-19 pandemic and its resulting quarantine, people around the world were focused on health and connection. Connection to other people they couldn’t see and visit, connection to the outside world, connection to the healthy lifestyles they had been living.

Brands everywhere vie for the chance to be considered. Being a new company with a new product that had just become commercially available to customers in the past year, Hydrow’s take on connected fitness, Live Outdoor Reality™, became a frontrunner in the competition. After an interview or two with our Founder and CEO, Bruce Smith, we were beyond honored to find out on November 19, 2020 that TIME Magazine officially named us one of the 100 Best Inventions of 2020.

Contenders, according to TIME, are evaluated “on key factors, including originality, creativity, effectiveness, ambition and impact.” This year’s winners include technological advancements in medical care, accessibility, sustainability, education, fitness (that’s us!) and other product categories “that are changing the way we live, work, play and think about what’s possible.”

We cannot contain our excitement about this prestigious recognition. To be included with these 99 other innovative companies changing the world not only makes the long days and sleepless nights bringing the actual Hydrow rowing machine to life even more worthwhile, but also gives us pride in our ongoing content - designed to bring people together and make the sport of rowing more accessible to all.
